Sunday Satsang 10 August 2008: Four Paths of the Soul

Posted in Esoteric Teaching, Podcasts, Sunday Satsangs, Vedanta at 10:35 am by David Bruce Hughes

In this Sunday Satsang we discuss what Vedānta-sūtra has to tell us about the four paths of the soul after death. Pious souls go by the path of the moon to serve the forefathers; those with transcendental knowledge but not yet self-realized go via path of the sun and serve the devas; those who are sinful go to the planet of Yamaraja where they are judged and punished. All of these return to the earth planet, after their enjoyment or punlishment is complete, by entering the rain and food plants, being eaten by a male and injected into the womb of the female. The pious sould take birth in human families; but the impious are born in the animal, insect and plant species, where they take borth and die again and again before being allowed to take human birth again. The fourth category is the fully self-realized devotees, who go directly or inirectly to the spiritual world. They never take both in this material world again.

Evening Darshan 3 July 2008

Posted in Darshan, Esoteric Teaching, Podcasts, Vedanta at 9:52 am by David Bruce Hughes

As usual we talked about all kinds of things: the craft of spiritual writing, the art of preaching, etc. Unfortunately there was a graduation block party at the nearby local school, so some parts are hard to hear.

Evening Darshan 18 June 2008: TIME Magazine Article on Consciousness

Posted in Darshan, Esoteric Teaching, Podcasts, Vedanta at 6:13 am by David Bruce Hughes

Dear Students,

Please accept my blessings. All glories to Srila Prabhupada, who insisted that all his darshans were recorded, making them available for posterity.

Last night we got talking about the recent TIME Magazine article on consciousness that Neville posted the other day. I didn’t read it, but Florian did, and was really fired up about it. The ensuing discussion was quite interesting.

Evening Darshan 17 June 2008: Evolution Theory and Vedanta

Posted in Darshan, Esoteric Teaching, Podcasts, Vedanta at 7:07 am by David Bruce Hughes

Dear Students,

Please accept my blessings. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

This evening darshan is a fascinating conversation about evolution theory, its lack of proof, the weakness of its arguments and how the Vedanta theory counteracts it. The theme is based on some research that Florian is doing for his German web site. I have to apologize for the sound quality; we had the brilliant idea of holding our evening prasadam outdoors on the patio, because the full moonrise is so strikingly beautiful and inspiring. But the background noise of bugs and frogs is so overpowering that even after equalizing and compressing the sound, it’s really hard to hear. The intensity of the conversation comes through, though. It reminds of some of Prabhupada’s morning walk conversations.

Evening Darshan 13 June 2008: The Esoteric Teaching and Sectarian Religion

Posted in Darshan, Esoteric Teaching, Podcasts, Vedanta at 6:36 am by David Bruce Hughes

Dear Students,

Please accept my blessings. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

The other night we had another evening darshan, this time about the relationship between the Esoteric Teaching and sectarian religions like Christianity. I explain Vyasadeva’s reasoning from Vedanta-sutra and Florian makes some very good points.

love,
Baba

Evening Darshan 12 June 2008: Devotees and Vedanta

Posted in Esoteric Teaching, Podcasts, Vedanta at 2:29 pm by David Bruce Hughes

Dear Students,

Please accept my blessings. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

Every evening we have sweet kirtan and stimulating discussions of Vedanta Philosophy, often while taking prasadam. These are very enjoyable and often the highlight of our day. We finally got the brilliant idea of recording them so we can share them with you. The other night we talked about a question Laura asked about association with ISKCON devotees.

love,
Baba
