The Esoteric Teaching Glyph
The symbol pictured on our site banner is the logo or glyph of the Esoteric Teaching. The dictionary defines glyph as "A symbol, such as a stylized figure or arrow on a public sign, that imparts nonverbal information." But such a figure has special meaning in the context of an esoteric school.

Every esoteric mystery school has its own confidential glyph by which its initiates recognize one another and reveal its secret teachings. One glyph familiar to many Christians is the fish or IKTHOS, used by early believers under persecution by Rome. A later glyph is the symbol of the cross, the brutal torture device by which all branches of Roman Christianity identify themselves.

Glyph in sandIn ancient times the glyph was often written in the sand, so in case of discovery, all traces of it could quickly be erased. Now with the advent of the Internet, our esoteric school has become a virtual association meeting in cyberspace and composed of bits and bytes. Accordingly, at right we have portrayed the glyph of the Esoteric Teaching as it may have looked when carefully inscribed on the sandy ground in ancient times.

The glyph of the Esoteric Teaching is composed of four shapes: three circles and a triangle. The circle is the symbol of the sun, the wisdom-seat of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. It has no beginning or end and no divisions, making it the perfect symbol of completeness, eternity, feminity and the spiritual energy. The triangle is a symbol of aspiration, arising, masculinity and fire. The quadrangular space around the glyph represents the material world. The three circles represent the outer, middle and inner circles of the students of the Esoteric Teaching. The Outer Circle represents the neophyte aspirants; the Middle Circle represents the Initiates and Teachers, and the Inner Circle represents the fully self-realized Master Teachers of this esoteric school.

GlyphThe triangle represents the school itself. It extends from the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the apex at the center of the Inner Circle, through the middle and outer circles, and out into the world. It is also the path that the aspirant must travel to attain the Inner Circle of Christ. It signifies that "many are called but few are chosen": out of many thousands of spiritual aspirants, only a few realize the complete Absolute Truth at any time. Those who do in this era wear the glyph of the Esoteric Teaching.

The ancient glyph of the Esoteric Teaching has nothing to do with the much later symbol of the pyramid and all-seeing eye. This corruption of the original represents a sectarian, external view of esoteric knowledge from the point of view of the sinful materialist. Out of lust, the materialist imagines that self-realization and esoteric knowledge will give him indomitable mystic powers with which to exploit and enjoy the material world. This perversion of the actual Absolute Truth leads them to destruction, while the original understanding leads to complete liberation and eternal felicity. Truly, the intention of the seer is far more important than the symbol seen.
