The Big Lie. And you accept it. That’s right—you’ve heard it thousands of times, in many guises and contexts. You’ve heard it so many times, you probably don’t think of it as a lie. You might think you believe it, and might even defend it if someone were to call it a lie. So little by little, over many years and in many ways, you’ve been programmed—trained to believe The Big Lie, and so cleverly convinced that you don’t even know you’ve been duped.

So, what is The Big Lie? It goes something like this: "Life is all about enjoyment. We humans are just sophisticated animals, the best and most intelligent animals in a world made by chance. There’s no God in control, no right or wrong, good or bad. Life is what you make of it. So come on—let’s party!"
That’s it: The Big Lie. You might be asking, “Well, what’s the matter with that? Sounds pretty good to me!” If so, this message is not for you. The matter with The Big Lie is that it’s a lie. It’s not just false; it’s so twisted that it’s actually evil. If you believe it, if you base your life or values on it or make decisions according to it, you will suffer. In fact, following The Big Lie is the cause of all our suffering in life.
